What is Hypnosis?

Most people believe that hypnosis isn’t real…

they have seen movies, or poor stage shows, or have seen a guy on TV walking around as if he has power over the people on stage. This is so far from the truth of hypnosis it’s not funny.

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that everyone experiences everyday often more than once. Have you ever tried talking to someone who is watching TV and found it hard to get their attention? This is a natural trance state.

The legal definition…

Here’s the legal definition:

  • Hypnosis is the bypass of the critical factor (this is the filter, or barrier,
between the conscious and subconscious mind)
  • The accepting of selective thinking, thoughts, concepts and ideas that
        are ok by you.
  • Altering a person’s belief or reality through suggestion, which they accept

State of mind during Hypnosis…

The mind has been examined whilst in various states of relaxation, these are the same as being under hypnosis or in a hypnotic state.

The 4 types of brain wave classifications as recognized by an EEG machine show the brain in 4 different states of functioning, these are show here :

1. Beta – Alert/Working
Emited when we are consciously alert, or we feel agitated, tense, afraid,
with frequencies ranging from 13 to 60 pulses per second in the Hertz scale.
2. Alpha – Relaxed Reflecting
When we are in a state of physical & mental relaxation although aware of
what is happening around us. It’s frequency is around 7 to 13 pulses per second.
3. Theta – Drowsy
More or less 4 to 7 pulses. It is a state of Somnolence with reduced consciousness.
4. Delta – Sleep / Dreaming & Deep Drowsiness / Sleep
When there is unconsciousness, deep sleep or catalepsy, emitting between 0.1
    and 4 cycles per second.

Whilst in a hypnotic trance your brain will either be in an Alpha or Theta state to accept suggestions.

For example, some people believe that hypnosis is simply imagination. Thanks to studies and the work of some great scientists we now know the real truth.

“Imagine yourself in a very dark room… you turn on a dull lamp in the corner of the room. The corner is illuminated by the light but the rest of the room remains pitch black. The illuminated corner represents your conscious mind while the rest of the dark room represents your unconscious / subconscious function.”

The Conscious Mind is…

  1. Analytical
  2. Sequential
  3. Cognitive
  4. Limited Focus
  5. Directs Outcomes
  6. Controls Thinking
  7. Waking
  8. Logical
  9. Deliberate

The Unconscious/Subconscious Mind is…

  1. Unlimited
  2. Expansive
  3. Active while sleeping and dreaming
  4. Simultaneous
  5. Feeling
  6. Responsible for involuntary movements
  7. Knows solutions to problems we cannot solve consciously
  8. Intuitive

Hypnotherapy is a deep state of relaxation,
where you mind is open to following suggestions
that you want to accept,
which is why it is so successful.
